Vedanta Study Circle and Ramakrishna Ashrama, Detroit, Michigan

Special Satsang on June 23rd, 2024 - A Report

The Ramakrishna Ashrama at Warren, MI has organized a wonderful Satsang evening with Rev. Swami Ishatmananda, President of Vedanta Society of Chicago & Rev. Swami Yogatmananda of Vedanta Society of Providence, RI on Sunday, June 23rd, 2024. More than 100 local devotees gathered at the Ashram and had a wonderful opportunity to participate in this special Satsang evening with the Swamis. Swami Ishatmananda gave the welcome speech and introduced Swami Yogatmananda to the devotees. Even though he is out of touch with the Bengali language for quite a while, Swami Yogatmananda delighted and impressed the audience with his impromptu speech in Bengali where he focused on an important teaching of Thakur Sri Ramakrishna for house-holders - Live life like a "Nanny", which means fulfilling all the responsibilities that one has without being bound by any bondings. Elaborating on this topic, Swami Ishatmananda stressed on the importance of performing the five sacrifices (Pancha Yajnya) as a part of routine activity in the daily life of a house-holder, namely Rrushi Yajnya(sacrifices for the source of knowledge by reading from scriptures),Pitru Yajnya (sacrifices/offerings for ancestors), Deva Yajnya (oblation to the Gods), Bhoota Yajnya (care for the protection of plants and animals) and Nrru Yajnya (caring for the fellow human beings of the society). Interspersed between these speeches were a few devotional songs by the local devotees. The discussions ended with everyone chanting the "Ramakrishna Sharanam" song. All devotees were served Bhog Prasad at the end of the discourses.
